Shades of STEM: Engineering-Is-Us is the cornerstone of Dessalines S.T.E.A.M Academy’s Community Outreach Program. Unlike traditional afterschool programs, we go beyond enrichment by providing specialized workshops, mentorship, and comprehensive training courses that guide young students from early career exploration to mastering the exact skills needed to succeed in STEAM. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The “E” in STEAM at Dessalines S.T.E.A.M Academy also stands for Entrepreneurship and Economic Independence. Within our STEAM programs, we strongly believe in providing students with not just technical knowledge but also the entrepreneurial skills necessary to create and seize opportunities in their future careers. We teach them how to think like innovators and leaders, empowering them to become self-reliant, build businesses, and contribute to the economic growth of their communities. By integrating entrepreneurship and economic independence into our curriculum, we ensure that our students are well-prepared to not only enter STEAM fields but also to thrive and lead within them.
We also place a strong emphasis on leadership training within our STEAM programming. Using a unique design, our program enables students to develop their leadership skills as they learn and grow throughout their mentorship relationships.
