DESSALINES S.T.E.A.M ACADEMYDessalines S.T.E.A.M Academy is a Microschool serving the SouthShore of Massachusetts. We provide a more personalized and innovative experience centered on STEM and the histories of our communities. Jean-Jacques Dessalines was a Haitian revolutionary, and we embody that spirit of knowledge, ingenuity, independence, and liberation all wrapped up in Agape love for the community.
Come join us for full-day in-person educational services for students who disenroll from public or private schools. Half-day and hybrid options are also available. Students can take their Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) courses with us, their Humanities courses with us, or both. Contact us for more information.
We are happy to announce that our Fall Fundraiser is here! Many of our students come from low-income households and many have unique academic needs. Parents see us as a solution to the challenges their children face in traditional settings: low-expectation, socially and emotionally unsafe spaces, lack of rigor, and sometimes an unwillingness to be flexible to meet the needs of their children. These very same students that faced challenges in other settings, whether bullying or lack of academic rigor, are thriving at Dessalines!
We have a robust STEAM curriculum where students take Art, chemistry, physics, engineering, music, and coding throughout their schooling at Dessalines. We celebrate the rich cultural heritage of African peoples and the diaspora and we let our students know that all things are possible. Many families want more for their children but can’t afford it in our communities. We are here to serve them. To do that, we fundraise. The school year runs from the third or fourth week in August to the end of June. Our day begins at 7:30 am and ends at 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, we end at noon.
